I just spent four wonderful days painting on the North Shore of Lake Superior with my good friend and fellow painter Holly Swift. A Harlequin Duck, a rare sight in this area, showed up and hung out with us on our rocky shore for a few days. The work we did will hereafter be know as “The Harlequin Series”.

I hadn’t painted on location in quite awhile, so there was the usual steep learning curve and frustration with materials, ability, and conditions…. and while walking up to the car from the shore with a finished painting, I dropped it face down in the dirt….. But I had a fantastic time, and was very sad to leave.

The following photos –  Another cool bird that was around for a few days was this beautiful Black-bellied Plover;  the rocky shore with tide pool and Harlequin Duck.
